DICOM is the standard format used for medical imaging, and mammography systems generate images in DICOM format. When you open your mammogram CD/USB or other external drive on a computer, you likely will not see standard image formats such as JPEG files. High-quality DICOM medical images are required by our AI software and radiologists for an accurate evaluation.

DICOM files commonly have a .dcm extension. However, some imaging providers package the images together with their own viewer software, and the files may appear differently depending on your computer system.

On Mac, these files may appear as “Unix Executable Files”; on Windows, they may simply appear as “File.” They are often located inside folders such as DICOM, STORE, IMAGES, or similar study folders, and may have names such as:
